7aam Arivu movie review

Interesting fare
while successful team combines, expectations fully rises high. SO is the case with 7 Aum Arivu. Suriya,
director A R Murugadoss and music composer Harris Jayaraj team up again after the blockbuster Ghajini, definetly all eyes
are on the movie. Check out 7 Aum Arivu Movie Review.

Story
The flick starts in sixth century AD and Bodhi Dharman (Suriya), a Pallava prince goes to China from Kanchipuram. He is considered the messiah of masses in China as he helps people in the village to overcome an epidemic. Moreover he teaches martial arts and is considered the founder of Shaolin. After his demise, he is worshipped as Tao by all in China.

The concept is cut to present and enters Aravindh (Suriya), a circus employee . He works in Greaty Bombay Circus. He falls for Suba Sreenivas (Sruthi), a research student. Aravindh and Suba become thick pals and the former falls for SUba’s charm. Meanwhile, he comes to know that Suba has some motive behind her activities.

Moreover a sequence of events represent that Chinese government is planning to unleash harm to India by planning Operation red and sens one Dong Lee (Johnny Tri Nguyen), a matrtial arts expert to Chennai. He is informed to kill Suba for Chinese government fears that her research on Bodhi Dharman would hinder all their plans.

Suba knows that Bodhi Dharman was forefather of Aravindh and finds out that both DNA their matches. Now her task is bringing to liofe the heroice of Bodhi Dharman through Aravindh to thwart the plans of Chinese government. How they achieve the task is what the film is all about.

Performance
Everbody knows the effort Suriya puts behind each role of his. When he gets a chance to do such characters like Bodhi Dharman and a circus artiste Aravindh, he amazes. His hard work is visible. Also the way he shaped up his physique to suit the role deserve mention. Watch out for Suriya in a casual performance as Bodhi Dharman. He is excellent. Sruthi makes a good debut. She gets a meaty role to perform. She is there dancing, romancing and has enough emotional scenes too.
Johnny Tri Ngyuen is a welcome addition to Tamil cinema. He as baddie oozes bvenom in every move of his. All other teh cast does a decent job.

Technicalities
It is a tough storyline and it demands grandeur to reach out to the masses. A R murugadoss has done his part well. he has done immense research and ensured that the message is loudly and clearly conveyed through the film. Ravi K Chandran’s cinematography captures Chinese village well. Harris Jeyaraj’s tunes are interesting but reminds of Ayan and Aadhavan at places. Rajeevan’s art direction is good but Anthony’s editing could have been more crisp.

Analysis
A different story. But what spoils the party is events that unfolds. Unfortunately they are little amateurish and predictable. Murugadoss has tried his best to sustain momentum, unfortunately it loses plot as it enters second half. It’s well begun, but unfortunately seems to be half-done.

Verdict: 4.0/ 5

Engeyum Eppothum - Movie Review

clock October 22, 2011 21:56 by author kanchanacdmoorthy

Engeyum Eppothum film concept is as below. Every day as we glance upon the ‘Accident News’ and it has really unavoidable. The news we read just gives us the picture of accident, picture of dead and injured and of course the reason behind reason. But have we ever thought about them? their love stories, and their affection for parents, family and their dreams. The very opening shot of the film gives the picture of two buses terribly crashing into each other. A flashback brings a detailed photograph of characters that travelled in these buses.

When A.R. Murugadoss altered the most complicated theme from ‘Mementos’ as ‘Ghajini’ adding a social issue (women authorization),his long time associate Saravanan picks a thin plot from ‘Final Destination 2’. Moreover, we have care to notice lots of similarities between these films that include the large vehicles, the nuts and bolts attached to the buses and many more of that sort.

But as you walk out of theatres, it’s a extremely silence as audiences are left speechless with lumps in their throats. Exactly, we could witness few audiences’ eyes soaked in tears. And that’s how a film should make the audiences feel. Make them reflect upon the screens…

‘Accidents’ as mentioned previous have become the most normal mode of death and more loss to the humans. Everyone should have come across similar situations, the pain, loss, feel of unhappiness that will never fade from our memories till last. Saravanan has excellently expressed the emotions through his writing. Though some of the characters are spotted like forcibly added, the main characters do add more intensity.

The lead pairs – Jai, Anjali, Sharvanand and Ananya walk away with live performances. The parallel games have been very well fashioned. The portions involving Jai and Anjali are more entertaining than it is with Sharvanand and Ananya. It’s not because Jai and Anjali are familiar faces, but they get more scope to perform. Say for example, the humor quotients and emotions are more with them while Sharvanand and Ananya remain silent during more portions and they have nothing more to express.

The other characters like young guy and gal is hilarious…. father urgently waiting to see his girl child for the first time is emotionally touching. M. Saravanan makes a deep impact during last 25minutes of the film and it’s the heaviest asset.

Couple of songs ‘Govinda Govinda’ and ‘Maasama’ is catchy while cinematography by Velraj plays a key role.

Overall, the film has a strong and appealing message to each and every audience that a very small careless mistake will cause huge loss…

All we can say is that don’t miss the film at any cost and it’s a must watch film for everyone.

Vedi - Review

Vedi Review

In Vedi, Vishal returns to his favourite character, action entertainers. After the poetic romance film Engeyum Kaadhal, Prabhu Deva gets back with a complete action entertainer Vedi. In this film Bollywood Diva Sameera Reddy combines with Vishal for the first time. Vedi is the remake of Telugu superhit film Souryam, which starred Anushka and Gopichand in lead roles. A young police officer goes insearch of his long lost sister but during this journey he meets his father's murderers; this is basic game of Vedi.

The film begins with Prabhakaran (Vishal) being chased by a group of collaborators . Someway he manages to escape and reach Kolkata; there he befriends Deepa (Poonam Kaur). Deepa helps him in finding a room and soon he becomes her informal bodyguard. After a series of events it is revealed that Deepa is Prabhakaran's long-lost sister.

In the middle of fighting off the goons (who are after him), he protects his sister and also falls in love with Paro (Sameera Reddy). Later it is also exposed that Prabhakaran is an undercover cop who is on a mission to carry off a awful criminal. The rest of the story is how he reveals his true identity to his sister and how he unites with Paro.

Vishal is at his best, Sameera Reddy is a treat to watch and Poonam fits the bill perfectly. Vivek's hilarious one liners have you in splits. Music by Vijay Anthony is good with the songs 'Icchu' and 'Eppadi mazhai' sticks out.

Totally Vedi is a complete mass entertainer with many twists and turns. Enjoy it.

Vandhan vendran - Movie review

Vandhan vendran movie review

Vandhaan Vendraan has everything going for it- romance, eye catching photography in lush locations, peppy music and rollicking comedy.

Arjun (Jeeva) who is urgently trying to meet Ramana (Nandha) the most powerful don in Mumbai, at last achieves his goal. He narrates how he had met Anjali (Taapsee) and fell in love with her.

But her businessman dad dies in a shoot-out on the streets of Mumbai and Ramana is the reason behind it. Now, Anjai has put a condition in front of Arjun that unless Ramana surrender before the police, she will not get married to him and he takes as mission.

But the real twist lies in the second half when we realize that Ramana and Arjun are siblings and the younger brother’s secret agenda behind coming to Mumbai and getting close to the dreaded don. Jiiva carries his role with ease and Nandha as the cool underworld don approaches his part with cheatness.

Santhanam provides comedy relief. Taapsee looks cute but her lip sync and dialogue delivery stick out like a mad. The excellence actress who practically lit up Aadukalam with her unlimited charm is let down by a thankless role.

The key problem with the film is its script and narration. It can't decide if it wants to be a commercial potboiler set against the backdrop of underworld or a romantic musical. The love scenes between Jiiva and Taapsee falls flat and there is no chemistry between them.

The major plus point is Thaman’s music especially the hummable scores Kanchana Mala... and Anjana Anjana... and minty cool camerawork of PG Muthiah.

There are a few nice touches in some places, mostly the sincere attempts of the lead actors, locations and song picturisation but most of the scenes lack the energy that was required to make it interesting.

Verdict- Average

Mankatha movie review

clock September 19, 2011 22:52 by author kanchanacdmoorthy

Vijay with Muruga doss

Mankatha is all the one would expect it to be: A complete masala entertainer with parts of slickness, comedy and riveting dishoom-dishoom.
...except one unique element. The unabashed portrayal of negative shades of characters and lack of forced moral correctness Yes. In this movie, it's not always that the good guys defeating the bad guys; it’s just as the bad guys are fun enough that you'd want them to win.

The entertainment in the movie is not so much the storyline itself – which is a dirty-cops-and-heist-gone-wrong thriller – but the zippy screenplay, big doses of humour and Ajith's brilliance.

Simple story:

The latest white-collar crime with blue-collar shades? Illegal betting on cricket matches by Indian and international communities like on the IPL matches. Who are the main characters?

Jayaprakash is the unscrupulous Chettiar who owns Golden Theatres in Mumbai, which forms the front for all his illegal businesses like money laundering, gambling, etc. Also the father of Sanjana (Trisha). Then there's suspended cop Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith), corrupted S.I. Ganesh (Ashwin), Chettiar's close friend Faizal (Arvind Akash) and Sumanth (Vaibhav), their friend Mahat (Mahat Raghavendra), his geeky friend Prem (Premgi Amaren), super cop Asst. Commissioner Prithviraj (Arjun) and his loyal aide Kamal Ekambaram (Subbu). The ladies in the movie are Sanjana (Trisha), Sona (Lakshmi Rai) and Suchitra (Anjali). Andreah plays a small role as Prithviraj's wife.

Long story short:

Chettiar convinces Mumbai's dons to use Golden Theatres to collect and divide the vast betting monies of IPL's final matches. Ganesh, Sumanth, Mahat and Prem want some of this moolah. Vinayak enters the scene with his cool scheme to take ALL of it away. Meanwhile, there's a special undercover police task force set up to close the net on these illegal betting activities. The money disappears. Chaos and mistrust happens. Mutiny in the ranks. Vinayak strives to be one step ahead of Chettiar, the cops and his own cronies. Big chunks of music, comedy and fight scenes. The plot thickens, the end happens in the series of twists and turns – and it's interesting to watch the whodunit happen and who's REALLY who in the story.

Big pluses:

First:The fact that Venkat Prabhu chose to thumb his nose at all the oft-seen fake morals-upholding business in Tamil films. So what if the bad guys are good to look at or fun enough that we as the audience would cheer for them? So what if the supposed "hero" is a cad? So what if every character has big swathes of grey in it? It's an entertainer, not a lecture on morality; our job is to sit back, relax and enjoy the hours of entertainment.

Then: This is an out-and-out Ajith film. He's greying around the temples, sports a scruffy stubble, doesn't have a hero's lightning-fast reflexes anymore and isn't skinny or rippling with muscle. But boy, he's got charisma and style. Pizzazz and panache. Looks and personality. Cool lines peppered with bleeped-out cuss words. The look, the role, the character and the mood suits him perfectly.

Next: Just because it's an Ajith film doesn't mean everyone else in the movie is simply chopped liver. Every single other character has weight and strength. The boys (Premgi, Vaibhav, Arvind Akash, Ashwin and Mahat) have done a superb job. Ashwin is especially impressive – tall, good-looking and a promising actor. Vaibhav is superb. Premgi is adorable. Mahat is one of those cute guys with a mean streak – perfect. Arvind is the perfect loyal goonda for the baddie. Arjun is on par with Ajith in heroism, the yin to Ajith's yang. Subbu is impressive as the upright police officer.

More: Nice twists and turns and fight scenes. It's good to see Ajith getting beaten up a little here and there too – it's more realistic, Hollywood-ian and one savours Ajith's fiery return barrage even more! Of course, comedy is a definite must in a Venkat Prabhu movie and everyone contributes to the haha-factor.

Some downers:

Tedious in places. The movie runs for 2 hours 35 minutes, but feels like it's 3 hours long. A couple of songs are superb, but others slip under good. In fact, there's one song with some bewildering background CG and picturisation that can be removed altogether. Some small but glaring loopholes here and there (lack of attention to detail has long been a Tamil movie failing), hard fights that could have been tightened around the belt and so on. Perhaps the biggest letdown was that the heroines were close to being completely wasted. No – they were not completely redundant; but they were not utilized to their maximum capacity either. Trisha is very pretty and has a unique fashion sense  and she's done the best she can within her character's framework, but Lakshmi Rai perhaps has the most colourful role.

Still, all in all, an entertaining end to an entertaining movie. The end credits are un-missable, so don't get up and walk away thinking the movie's over.

Avan Ivan movie review

clock June 20, 2011 22:48 by author gopi

Avan Ivan

After the massive hits & award winning shows like Sedhu, Nandha, Pithaamagan and Naan Kadavul there's a similar different type of story from the award winning director Bala. Avan Ivan celebrates the story of two brothers Kumbadren Samy (Arya) and Walter Vananga mudi (Vishal). The previous films of Bala were the platform for the actors Vikram, Surya, Arya & Pooja. In this film Bala becomes the platform for Vishal too.

In this movie Vishal played a squint-eyed street actor and doing many criminal activities in the village with support of his mother. Both of the brothers were supported by a Zaminthaar Theerthapathi (G. M. Kumar) without any reasons. Of the two Zaminthaar likes Vishal most. Then coming to the heroine section, the pretty girl Janani Iyer played the role of a police. On several occasions Vishal returns the stolen goods from his home so that she would not be fired from her job. Thus a good relationship between Vishal & Janani Iyer becomes love by Vishal's impressions. On the otherhand Arya bullying the college girls and get money from them. These mischievious activities are inspired by Thenmozhi (Madhu Shalini).

Once actor Surya came to the village to promote his Agaram foundation there. In a school he was speaking about the foundation. While the Zaminthaar pleased Vishal to make a drama infront of Surya. There he did show his full skills, including the Navarasam. Surya became very happy to see that & congratulated Vishal. This made Arya angry on the Zaminthaar & Vishal. But didn't do anything against them.

On a scene Arya came with Madhu Shalini to the Zaminthaar's home to introduce her. Then, Vishal told the truth that Madhu Shalini's father was the enemy of the Zaminthaar. Then, Zaminthaar becomes very angry & told Arya not to marry her. But Arya refused to it & scolded the Zaminthaar that he has no family & he can't understand his love. Thus the Zaminthaar becomes very angry with Arya and thrown him away along with Vishal out of his home. He then becomes drunken and came to street & wet in rain. Then Arya & Vishal with their mothers came and took him to home. Then, he forgives everything and gives his own lands to Arya's wedding.

Everything goes fine until the arrival of the Villain R. K. who illegally smuggles cows to Kerala for meat and is this is found out by the Zaminthaar and the authorites are informed and he loses his animal farm and is taken by the police amid media fare. Then, R. K. killed the Zaminthaar and hung him in a tall tree near a river. Then the climax shown, where Vishal & Arya were dancing before the final procession. After that two flashbacks were shown from Arya's perspective and Vishal's perspective. They both fought with R. K. and killed him and tied him with the dead body and fired. Thus the film ends.

Yuvan Shankar Raja did the music for this film. Especially Diyo Diyo dole song made the youngsters dance in the theatre. Dialogue by S. Ramakrishnan. Songs were by Na. Muththukumar.

Maaveeran movie review

clock June 16, 2011 21:19 by author kanchanacdmoorthy
Maaveeran movie review

Magadheera(Telugu) is being dubbed and released in Tamil as Maveeran and in Malayalam as Dheera.

Harsha (Ram Charan Teja) is a happy-go-lucky biker in Vizag, who earns by motorcycle racing. One day, while travelling in an auto rickshaw, he incidentally brushes his finger against Indhu (Kajal Aggarwal), who waves for the same auto rickshaw. The touch creates a magical sensation in him; he leaps from the auto rickshaw to go in search of her. Harsha fails to recognize Indu, as she covers herself with a windcheater. Indu, assuring that Harsha is searching for her, tricks him into believing that she is a close friend of Indu and would lead him to her.

Harsha starts tracing Indu to help him find the mystery girl, unaware that Indu is the one he is seeking. Harsha happens to brush Indu's hands and he experiences the same magical sensation, a feeling which arouses all his senses, a feeling that makes him desirous. Harsha believes that his feeling has a deeper meaning.

Upcoming scenes represent that Harsha and Indu were born as Kala Bairavan and Mithra Vindhu, 400 years ago in their previous birth. Kala Bairavan had been the commander of King Vikramasingh's (Sarath Babu) army and Mithra Vindhu was his beautiful daughter. They were madly in love, but were separated and killed by the king's nephew, the nefarious Rana Dev Billa (Dev Gill) who had lusted for the beautiful Mithra Vindhu. Kala Bairavan and Mithra Vindhu's love was so powerful that they were reborn so that destiny might bring them together again. The evil Rana Dev too is reborn as Ragubir, Indu's cousin in the present day.

An prophesier predicts that the battle between Kala Bairavan and Rana Dev for Mithra Vindhu will be repeated after 400 years in the form of Harsha, Indu and Ragubir. In the rest of the scenes filled with mysticism, action, revenge and romance, Maveeran will show whether Kala Bairavan and Mithra Vindhu would succeed in their love after 400 years of waiting.

Maveeran is not your run-of-the-mill dubbed movie. Out of the eight movies the director has made, five were super hits, two hits and one blockbuster. With all these success, Rajamouli has mastered the perfect recipe for an entertaining Indian movie, and Maveeran is born out of it. It offers romance, glamour, dance numbers, action scenes, visual effects and just anything that you can ask for in an Indian movie.

Chiranjeevi makes a guest appearance in the movie, and making fun Ram Charan, saying that he is a 'bachaa'. Ram Charan presents so strong performance, but his acting has resemblance to his father Chiranjeevi's. Other stars Dev Gill, Kajal Aggarwal, Srihari and Sarath Babu present well coordinated performances, which makes the movie rapidly high above all its dubbed counterparts. Maveeran is a must-watch, twice or even thrice as a mega super hit film.
